Fountainwood’s proximity to Lake Georgetown is an attractive draw for residents who enjoy boating, fishing, hunting and other outdoor recreation. The US Corp of Army Engineers manages Lake Georgetown, a reservoir on the north fork of the San Gabriel River. Boating is the preferred way to enjoy the lake, and boat ramp access is just minutes from the neighborhood. “Lake Georgetown is popular with locals,” says Stacy McLaughlin of the US Army Corp of Engineers’ Lake Georgetown Project Office. “You will see people enjoying themselves out in pontoon boats, fishing boats, kayaks and canoes all year-round.”
Historic Georgetown Downtown and a Bright Future with Well-Regarded Schools
On the National Register of Historic Places, Georgetown provides a small hometown feel to this rural community. Voted “The Most Beautiful Town Square in Texas,” Georgetown has a lovely revitalized town center with vintage homes and small boutiques. Regularly scheduled events and family activities draw both area residents and visitors. The annual Red Poppy Festival in April and the holiday events in December are by far the most eagerly anticipated happenings of the year, welcoming visitors from across the state.
Homeowners are also attracted to the area’s well-regarded schools. Students living in Fountainwood attend schools in the Georgetown Independent School District, including Jo Ann Ford Elementary, Douglas Benold Middle School and Georgetown High School. The Texas Education Agency awarded Ford Elementary the coveted “Exemplary” rating, while Benold Middle and Georgetown High were rated ”Academically Acceptable.”
