Buy a Home — Invest in the Cherry Creek Lifestyle
Conveniently located just 15 minutes south of downtown and 18 minutes from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, Cherry Creek offers its residents great accessibility in addition to a variety of current real estate listings for sale.
Residential real estate in this popular, charming community was developed in phases between the 1960s and the 1990s, and many of the properties here have been updated with modern amenities and design features. It is also common for smaller, older homes to have room additions in addition to remodeling.
A couple of neighborhood associations service particular areas of Cherry Creek. The Tanglewood area, for example, has an active homeowners’ association, which real estate owners in the area appreciate. “We like that the association prevents someone from painting their house electric blue or burnt orange,” says resident Stephen Shackelford. “It helps to protect the real estate values here and in particular, the resale value of our home.”
Residents also like the neighborhood’s sense of community. “On the spur of the moment, a group of us will text each other and arrange an outing to Maudie’s,” says Melissa de la Haye, a 4-year resident. “We’ll walk up there, have a couple margaritas and walk back. It’s a lot of fun. Very cool people live in South Austin.”
“We have a neighborhood 4th of July parade, a Halloween celebration, an Easter egg hunt and contests for the best-decorated homes at Christmas,” says Erika Taylor, a Cherry Creek real estate owner for 17 years. “We also have a community garden that many of our neighbors enjoy.”
In addition to the dynamic social scene, Cherry Creek is a great place to receive a quality education. The area is served by three Austin Independent School District elementary schools: Cowan, Cunningham and Sunset Valley. Older kids go to Covington Middle School and Bowie High School. Cowan, Cunningham and Bowie were all given the “Recognized” rating by the Texas Education Agency.
Your Place to Call Home
Cherry Creek real estate owners like the “cool factor” of their South Austin neighborhood, as well as its sense of community and proximity to downtown and the airport. Folks in the area enjoy biking or walking to nearby bakeries, grocery stores and many other shops. They also appreciate being so close to a wide variety of entertainment options. “It’s a great location,” says Taylor, a retired gymnastics teacher. “If I need to go to the bank, I can just walk.”
Community members especially appreciate the diversity of their family-friendly neighborhood. “There’s a wide variety of home sizes and prices in the neighborhood, so we have a lot of different people who live here. We have people from all walks of life living here,” says de la Haye, who’s glad her 7-month-old daughter will grow up in this wonderful eclectic community.
