Scott is a rare find among Austin real estate agents. With expertise in both real estate and architecture, he sees his primary task as “pairing places with their people,” believing that people and their living spaces are intertwined; that a house becomes home as an expression of its owners.
Scott has been a REALTOR for over twelve years, during which time he’s made it his mission to study and teach about home buying and selling, architecture and design, and art and cultural history. He feels all these skills and passions combine in buying and selling real estate, matching homes with lifestyles and pursuing the best value in every transaction.
Originally from Chicago, Scott is a student of life, a recovering academic, and a self-styled (but stylish!) nerd. He earned his Bachelor’s degrees in Architecture and Liberal Arts from the University of Miami, FL, studied Sanskrit, Bengali, and Indian art history in Calcutta and Varanasi, India, and then went on to take a Master’s degree in Indology (the ethnohistory of India) at the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies. Around the turn of the century, he moved to Austin to further his studies at the University of Texas, where he worked as an assistant instructor and graduate research associate and, while still a graduate student, obtained his Texas real estate license.
During his years in real estate, Scott has engaged extensively with the Austin community. Since 2007, he’s charted and directed two lecture series that have helped shape the architectural discourse in Austin. The first, Architecture @ the Umlauf, which he co-directed with Carla Umlauf at the Umlauf Sculpture Garden and Museum, featured thirty architects over its five year run, and in 2017, he reinvented that series as Articulture ArchiTalks in the event garden at Articulture Designs. As an Allied Member of Austin’s chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), he sits on both the Homes Tour and Urban Design Committees and is committed to promoting sustainable development and context-sensitive, design-driven densification in central Austin’s housing market. He is managing partner of the newly formed Second Avenue Property Fund, dedicated to urban ‘placemaking’ and developing quality mid-density housing in central Austin and Director of The Friends of Nightwing Plaza, who work to make the makeshift temporary plaza around SoCo’s Nightwing sculpture a permanent feature of the city. In his spare time, Scott enjoys workouts with Tony Horton, Vinyasa yoga, hiking Austin’s many trails, slowly building a collection of contemporary non-Western painting, geeking out on methodologies for appraising both real estate and art, and continuing his studies of history and dead languages. He’s also a fan of Top Chef, The Voice, Netflix, and novels by Salman Rushdie.
Scott is detail-oriented, deeply knowledgeable, patient, conscientious, and kind. His background as a teacher makes him well suited for anyone seeking clear guidance in the real estate negotiation process, and his experience in Austin’s design-build market allows him to help clients imagine the possibilities. He believes the right home for every person exists, and if you can’t find it, you can create it. Clients describe him as hardworking and tireless, finding buyers just what they need and helping sellers put their home’s best face forward.
“I have an intuition for matching clients with just the right place and an innate ability to guide them in making good decisions in the buying or selling process.” Scott’s success as a Realtor has included selling homes all around Central Austin, as well as in Lakeway, Cat Mountain and Allandale. Scott loves Austin because, “As one of the fastest growing and developing cities in the United States, it sizzles with creativity and enterprise, from innovative housing and design to restaurants to tech. I just love the energy and personalities that make the city ‘go.’”
As an experienced Realtor, Scott joined Maxavenue because he feels his existing approach to real estate is in alignment with their principles and proven formula for success. “I’m excited to master the persona-targeted marketing model based on price elasticity, both out of intellectual interest and for what it can offer my clients. Persona targeted marketing suggests, to me, an algorithm for what I have already been doing naturally.”
